Leadership
John W. Casella has served as Chairman of our Board of Directors since July 2001 and as our Chief Executive Officer since 1993. Mr. Casella also served as our President from 1993 to July 2001 and as Chairman of our Board of Directors from 1993 to December 1999. In addition, Mr. Casella has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Casella Waste Management, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of ours, since 1977. Mr. Casella is also an executive officer and director of Casella Construction, Inc., a company owned by Mr. Casella and his brother Douglas R. Casella, also a member of our Board of Directors, which specializes in general contracting, soil excavation and heavy equipment work, and which performs landfill-construction and related services for us. Mr. Casella has been a member of numerous industry-related and community service-related state, local, and national boards and commissions, including the Board of Directors of the Associated Industries of Vermont, the Association of Vermont Recyclers, the Vermont State Chamber of Commerce, the Rutland Industrial Development Corporation, the Rutland Regional Medical Center, the National Recycling Coalition, the Detachable Container Association and the Environmental Research & Education Foundation. Mr. Casella has also served on various state task forces, serving in an advisory capacity to the Governors of Vermont, New York, and New Hampshire on solid waste issues. Mr. Casella holds an Associate of Science degree in Business Management from Bryant & Stratton College and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Education from Castleton University.
Ned Coletta has served as our President since November 2023. Previously, Mr. Coletta held both President and Chief Financial Officer roles from July 2022 to November 2023. From December 2012 through June 2022, he served as our Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer, and Treasurer. Mr. Coletta previously served as our Vice President of Finance and Investor Relations after roles of increasing responsibility from when he joined the company in December 2004. From 2002 until he started with us, Mr. Coletta served as the Chief Financial Officer and was a member of the Board of Directors of Avedro, Inc. (FKA ThermalVision, Inc.) an early-stage medical device company that he co-founded. From 1997 to 2001, he served as a research and development engineer for Lockheed Martin Michoud Space Systems. Mr. Coletta holds an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College and a Bachelor of Science degree from Brown University in Materials Science Engineering.
Brad Helgeson has served as our Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer since November 2023. From 2013 to 2022, Mr. Helgeson was the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for Covanta Holding Corporation (“Covanta”), a publicly-traded materials management and energy services company. Previously, he served as Vice President and Treasurer of Covanta from 2007 to 2013. Mr. Helgeson started in the environmental services industry as the Vice President of Finance and Treasurer at Waste Services, Inc. from 2004 to 2007 after an investment banking career at Lehman Brothers and Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette from 1998 to 2004. Mr. Helgeson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and History from Bowdoin College.
Sean Steves has served as our Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Solid Waste Operations since July 2022. Mr. Steves most recently served as our Senior Vice President of Operations since 2019. Mr. Steves joined us in April of 2018 as our Vice President of Operational Initiatives. From 2016 until he joined us in 2018, he was the Director of Operations Support for Republic Services. Mr. Steves has 25 years of Operations experience in the waste industry starting as a transfer station Scale Operator. He has held roles of increasing responsibility ever since, including Operations Supervisor, Operations Manager, and General Manager. Mr. Steves holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from DePaul University with a concentration in Sustainable Management.
Kevin Drohan has served as our Vice President and Chief Accounting Officer since April 2022. Mr. Drohan joined us in August 2021 as our Corporate Controller. From 2015 until he joined Casella, Mr. Drohan served as the Corporate Controller for Sprague Resources, LP (“Sprague”), a publicly-traded regional provider of industrial, commercial, and residual energy products. From 2007 through 2015, Mr. Drohan held various finance and accounting roles of increasing responsibility at Sprague. Prior to Sprague, Mr. Drohan held accounting and audit roles at Stanley Black & Decker, EY, and BerryDunn. Mr. Drohan is a Certified Public Accountant and holds an MBA and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of New Hampshire.
Keith Landau has served as our Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer since August 2023. From 2016 until he joined Casella, Mr. Landau served as the Chief Technology Director for Deloitte Services, LP and for the prior five years beginning in 2010, he was the Vice President of Enterprise Applications for Waste Management. Mr. Landau has over 33 years of information technology, consulting, and technology transformation leadership experience in both domestic and global roles. Mr. Landau holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Mathematics as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from SUNY Binghamton.
Paul Ligon has served as our Senior Vice President of Sustainable Growth since December 2019 and oversees our Sustainable Growth teams including sales, marketing, customer care, sustainability, and community engagement teams. From 2012 through 2019 Mr. Ligon led the development of our Solutions business focused on delivering sustainable services to commercial, industrial, and municipal customers. Prior to joining us, Mr. Ligon was a managing director for Waste Management’s Organic Growth Unit in Houston from 2003 through 2011 and a Senior Scientist with the Tellus Institute for Resource and Environmental Strategies in Boston from 1990 to 2001. Mr. Ligon earned his MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science from the University of Vermont.
Jason Mead was named Senior Vice President of Finance and Treasurer in July 2022 and previously served as our Vice President of Finance since February 2021. Mr. Mead joined the company in June 2010 and has served in finance roles of increasing responsibility during this period. From 2007 until he joined the Company, Mr. Mead held various roles at Fidelity Investments Inc. Mr. Mead holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from the University of Vermont.
Jeff Stein was named Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs in January 2024. Prior to joining the company, Mr. Stein spent 40 years at the international law firm Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP (“WilmerHale”) where he was a Partner focused on corporate law across a wide range of companies at various stages of growth, including working with Casella since 1996. He has extensive knowledge and experience across a number of specialties, specifically mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, and strategic corporate growth as well as public company regulatory compliance and governance. Mr. Stein holds a JD from Harvard Law School and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Amherst College.
Kyle Larkin was named Region Vice President for our Mid-Atlantic Region in June 2023. Mr. Larkin is responsible for oversight of solid waste operations in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Delaware. Mr. Larkin joined Casella in November of 2022 as Vice President of Business Development for the company. Prior to Casella, Mr. Larkin spent 15-years in the waste industry at Republic Services and GFL Environmental Inc. as well as more recently serving as the Chief Operating Officer at SWAT Environmental. Mr. Larkin, additionally, has extensive knowledge in organic recycling and composting as he formerly owned and operated an organics facility in Pennsylvania. Mr. Larkin is a graduate of The Hill School and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing and Accounting from Mansfield University.
Simon Tripp was named Region Vice President for our Eastern Region in January 2024. In his current role, Mr. Tripp is responsible for oversight of solid waste operations in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine. From January 2011 through 2023, Mr. Tripp served as Eastern Region Controller after his role as Division Manager at the Salem Hauling Division beginning in 2005. Mr. Tripp joined the company in April 2003 as a Financial Analyst and was promoted to Regional Operations Analyst in 2004. Prior to joining Casella, Mr. Tripp was an Associate Economist at Standard & Poor’s from 1996 through 2000. Mr. Tripp holds an MBA from the Goizueta Business School at Emory University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth College in Economics.
