The awards were established in 1993 to recognize the actions taken by Vermonters to conserve and protect natural resources, prevent pollution, and promote environmental sustainability.

The award was received in recognition of their collaborative new service called The Power of Three™ an innovative solution for businesses dedicated to participating in genuine "closed loop recycling." The Power of Three is a three-step process of picking up a customer's recycling, processing that recycling into new products, and then providing those products back to the customer in the form of new hand towels, tissue paper, and toiletry items.
